DWELL WELL

The Art of Organizing

Just as yoga encourages us to let go of what no longer serves us, home organizing encourages us to release clutter and excess from our living spaces. This process is not merely about tidying up – it's a journey of self-discovery and liberation. And it is a natural extension of the Yamas and Niyamas, yoga’s ethical guidelines that encourage us to take ownership of our lives and direct it towards the fulfillment we seek.

It's about embracing simplicity, finding contentment in what we have, and fostering an environment that nurtures our growth and creativity. I’m here to help you clear the clutter so you can abide in peace and wellness.

ORGANIZING

The Yamas & Niyamas

Minimalism is a movement that has gained a lot of traction over the past decade, but its roots can be found in ancient yoga teachings. Through the Eight Limbs of Yoga, we are introduced to the Yamas and Niyamas.
Brahmacharya (self-control or non-excess) means living in moderation and refraining from overindulgence. Aparigraha (non-attachment or non-hoarding) means wanting and keeping only what you need. Santosha (contentment) means being satisfied with what you have and not desiring more.
Our goal as yogis should be to live intentionally and find beauty in simplicity. When we clear the physical clutter from our lives, we literally make way for inspiration and good energy to flow. The end result is that you will feel calm, peaceful and unburdened.
My approach
Drawing from the essence of yoga philosophy, I guide you through the process of decluttering with compassion and mindfulness. I’ll roll up my sleeves and do the heavy lifting, but I also empower you to take ownership of your space and embrace a
clutter-free lifestyle.
Whatever space is stressing you out, together we will start by identifying the essential and eliminating the rest. Once you have removed the excess, I will create a beautiful space with organizing systems in place that will be easy for you to maintain.
As you see your home come to life in a new light, you'll feel empowered to maintain its harmony and order long after our work together is done.
My organizing services are perfect for:

  • Reduced Stress: A cluttered space can lead to a cluttered mind. Being organized helps you feel more in control and less overwhelmed, leading to lower stress levels and better mental health.
  • Improved Time Management: With clear priorities and a structured plan, you can manage your time more efficiently. You’re better equipped to meet deadlines and avoid last-minute rushes.
  • Enhanced Focus and Clarity: An organized environment eliminates distractions, helping you stay focused on your goals. This promotes mental clarity and enhances decision-making abilities.
  • Better Health and Well-being: Being organized can extend to meal planning, exercise routines, and personal care, leading to healthier habits and better overall well-being.
  • Greater Financial Savings: Organization reduces the likelihood of making unnecessary purchases, losing items, or missing payments. This can save you money and promote better financial management.
  • Improved Relationships: An organized life can make you more reliable and punctual, improving your personal and professional relationships. It also allows for more quality time with loved ones.
  • Increased Confidence and Self-Esteem: Being organized can foster a sense of accomplishment and control over your life, boosting your confidence and self-esteem.

Brandon’s Office

Brandon is a reader, a writer, a collector, and an entrepreneur. His office had become so cluttered and disorganized it was affecting his productivity. He wanted a place for everything and everything in its place, and he knew he could maintain it if systems were implemented. He also wanted to incorporate a place for his daily meditation practice. This life-changing transformation took a total of 14 hours over two days.

Farrah’s Kitchen

When Farrah moved into her boyfriend’s bachelor pad, they suddenly had twice as much stuff in the same space. Both enjoy cooking, and they had accumulated a ton of spices that had taken over their limited counter space. They wanted the spices easily accessible but out of sight. They also had an impractical pantry with deep shelves where items would get lost. This project took 15 hours over three days.

Fitness Studio

This South Austin fitness studio has one room that serves as office, conference room, break room, and storage. After two years in business, the clutter had completely taken over and the room was virtually useless. Everything had to be organized and labeled so the 40+ employees could easily find what they were looking for. This project took 25 hours over four days and required a substantial investment in organizing products and decor items. After completing the 8x12 space, an additional storage closet was added to the scope of work.

Hair Salon

This lovely salon in central Austin offers full-service hair, skin care, waxing and makeup services with six full-time employees. The back room serves multiple functions, including product storage, office, and break room. I was called in to organize the chaos and make it pretty. This project took 20 hours over three days.

Hamlin Home

I collaborated with an interior designer on this full-house refresh. The 10-year-old’s bedroom was too “young” for his current needs. He wanted a space where he could build Legos, draw and hang out. The cabinets in the game room were stuffed with clutter and games/books that were too young for this growing family. This project took 25 hours over 4 days. Much of that time was spent sorting Legos!

Kim’s Pantry

This is a perfect example of a pantry refresh. Organizing products had already been purchased but were no longer being put to good use. The entire pantry was emptied, and any expired food items were discarded. Items were categorized, labeled, and placed where Kim was used to finding them. This project took 6 hours and was completed in one day.

Shelly’s Kitchen

Shelly and her husband purchased a historic home in Tarrytown that was full of charm but lacked modern storage solutions. The drawers and cabinets were stuffed, and they were using the space on top of the cabinets to store unsightly items. They are also wine collectors, and cases of wine had been stacked in the dining room and stairwell. I was able to maximize storage in the pantry and organize the kitchen so it made sense. This project took 18 hours over three days.

Stationery Shoppe

This stationery boutique in historic downtown Glen Ellyn, Illinois, is a local favorite for unique, thoughtful, feel-good items. The store itself is absolute perfection, but the back-of-house area was overrun with products, display items, and customer orders. The store owner was embarrassed anytime a customer asked to use the restroom because they would have to walk through the disorganized chaos to get there. The first day was spent working with the owner, deciding what to keep and what could go (we filled a dumpster with discarded items). The second day was spent organizing and labeling everything that would stay. The result is a space in which the owner and employees look forward to working.

Hill Country Home

Taylor and her husband needed help settling in when they moved into their dream home. I unpacked and organized their kitchen, pantry, master closet and master bathroom. This project took 19 hours over three days.

Terri’s Closet

Terri lives in a one-bedroom condo in downtown Austin. Her walk-in closet had become a catch-all, and the resulting chaos affected Terri’s quality of life. We spent hours going through every piece of clothing and donated more than a dozen bags to Goodwill. One of the biggest challenges with this project was Terri’s sentimentality. She had boxes of keepsakes that she had moved from apartment to apartment since leaving home, and she simply didn’t have the space to store everything and still live comfortably. With my guidance, she was able to let go of most of it. I also created a Memory Jar where she could corral smaller sentimental items. This project took 12 hours over two days.

What Past Clients are Saying

"I knew Stephanie through my yoga teacher training experience and later saw that she had an organizing business. I asked her a couple of years ago to help me get organized in my kitchen and pantry. She did an excellent job and it was very easy to stay organized. We moved about 4 months ago and I asked Steph to completely unpack and organize my kitchen, pantry and primary bath. She did this while my husband and I were at work. It was great to come home to a new kitchen and bath with everything organized in a way that makes sense. I plan to have her do my closet and garage in the next few months. Having an organized home saves me a lot of time and energy with my busy work schedule!"
